Abstract
The interim AVP is a key “number two” player that occupies a unique leadership role in higher education who attempts to bring a sense of harmony and support during a time of change and uncertainty. This session will explore the context and function of this “fractional” or Interim AVP role, consider ways to nurture and help individuals thrive in this role, inspire those considering taking AVP roles as a professional development pathway for continued senior leadership growth, and explain how institutions can effectively craft and set up this role for success. The main presenter is a fractional senior leader in higher education who will share their experiences in prior and current Interim roles, offer self-reflection in group discussion, and participants will leave with strategies for success and a network of other Interim AVPs.
