Abstract
This session offers insights into integrating critical theory and equitable practices within leadership education, drawing from the research outlined in "Finding Growth Zones: Socially Just Leadership Learning, Developmental Readiness, and Zones of Proximal Development." Participants will explore strategies for nurturing socially just leadership learning, addressing student resistance, and fostering developmental readiness.
Utilizing Vygotsky’s zones of proximal development adapted for student leadership learning, the session will assist participants in guiding students from comfort zones to growth zones while navigating student resistance. Through practical case studies, presenters will outline methods for overcoming resistance via brave spaces and empathy.
This session, in alignment with the theme of "Inclusive Leadership," underscores identity development, cultural relevance, social justice, equity, and anti-racist practices, equipping students to lead in diverse and equitable ways. Participants will actively engage in discussions, share effective practices, and analyze case studies to develop actionable strategies for their programs.
