Abstract
Acclimating to a new culture, building a support system, and feeling like you belong are significant challenges faced by international students. Join us for an educational presentation focused on tailoring our interactions to meet these students’ individual needs. Our goal is to enhance their sense of belonging and improve the quality of cross-cultural interactions among the domestic and international student populations on campus. We will discuss strategies to help you become a resource students will reach out to, rather than shy away from.
Learning Outcomes
Recognize common stressors and the impact of microaggressions associated with being an international student and learn how to best support their individual needs.
Enhance peer educators’ ability to reach an international student audience through a comprehensive cross-cultural interactive approach.
Utilize strategies to cultivate respectful cross-cultural interactions among the domestic and international student population by increasing the sense of belongingness among international students.
