Abstract
Recognizing the 2024 NASPA Excellence Award Category Gold Winner in the Fraternity and Sorority Life, Leadership, Student Activities, Student Union, and related category! The presenter will share about Sister Circle, a student organization at Kent State University and an initiative within the E. Timothy Moore Student Multicultural Center (SMC). Sister Circle began in spring 2009 as a program committed to supporting women of color on KSU's campus. After research was conducted to identify the contributing factors for students’ low retention rates, university leadership better understood that women of color were not seeing themselves reflected in the institution and experiencing feelings of isolation. The result was creating a space for women of color to meet and discuss their experiences.
